Why are there so many annoying people in the world?! Sometimes I wish (even out loud) that all "those" annoying people could be more like me. I know, I'm the only one that's ever thought it.
To be honest, I'm glad no one has ever decided to grant my wishes. While it's frustrating to have to wade through the world with people whose perspectives are different from mine, I believe these are the people God has given me to help me grow as a Christian disciple. Just as our bodies grow weak without exercise, our spiritual lives can quickly atrophy if we cloister ourselves with people who support our every thought and belief.
We push our muscles to grow through resistance. We increase our stamina and the overall health of our heart and lungs by regular aerobic activity. So too, the resistance we meet in others gives us the opportunity to push our capacity to love. Some of us are even lucky enough to have people who annoy us on a regular basis, allowing us to increase in patience and steadfast love for the long race ahead.
Sure, there are days I wish for a lighter or shorter workout, but I believe God is the best trainer around.
Ready for the next set? Don't forget to breath.
